The Columbus Gazette, April 18, 1882 CARSTENSEN--Michael Welsh informs that a Mr. Carstensen, a Dane, living at Creston, tried to make short work with his life last Friday, by thrusting a butcher knife into his side. The knife struck a rib which turned the point downward, or the blow would have killed him at once. The wound may yet prove mortal. He is pronounced insane by his physician, having shown signs of a wandering mind for several days.
Records of Potters Field Cemetery, Platte County, Nebraska list death of Andrew Carstenson 29 Oct 1886 at age 41 in a hospital.
In the 1930 Platte County, Nebraska census, Mary Carstenson was living with her married daughter Laura's family, and listed immigration year as 1869, so she possibly came on the same ship as Anders.
